Question: Where can I use the UPC Codes that I purchase from you?
Answer: Your UPC Codes will work everywhere online and in any retail stores besides the following: Walmart (Our UPC Codes work great for Walmart.com, but will not work in physical Walmart stores), Sams Club, Kroger, FredMeyer, Macy’s, & Bloomingdales. Walmart, Sams Club, Kroger, FredMeyer, Macy’s, & Bloomingdales require that you lease your own company prefix from GS1 and if you plan on selling your products in one those 6 retail stores, we recommend that lease your own GS1 company prefix.
Question: I want to sell my book; do I need a UPC, EAN or ISBN number?
Answer: If you’re selling your book through a retail outlet, the retailer will generally require that you obtain a UPC code & an ISBN. The ISBN is a 13 digit number that properly identifies the book title and the publisher’s contact information. We recommend that you check your store’s requirements on UPC and ISBN codes before purchasing from us. Sometimes you can get away with just using a UPC code and then you can purchase the UPC codes from us. We do not offer ISBN’s.
Question: I want to sell a magazine, will a UPC code work?
Answer: Most magazines usually require special bar codes with 5-digit BIPAD numbers that are encoded in them. However, some retailers accept regular UPC or EAN codes. We recommend checking into your retailer first in advance to find out their specific requirements. If they don’t require a BIPAD number, then you can purchase UPC codes through us to put on your magazine.

Question: What is a UPC / EAN Code?
Answer: UPC stands for Universal Product Code which is a specific 12-digit barcode which allows retailers to manage sales and inventory of a product. UPC Codes are required for all general use products in the USA and Canada. EAN Codes are a 13-digit barcode that is valid in all countries. EAN stands for european article number.
Question: How do I get my UPC Codes once I’ve paid for them?

Question: How do I enter my price into the UPC Code?
Answer: UPC Codes do not store pricing for products. For example, let’s imagine that you want to purchase Edy’s Ice cream at your local walmart store. That specific walmart is running a sale for $2.99 for a half gallon size. That retail outlet will have entered into their system your barcode number so that when the cashier scans the product, the correct price/info will appear. The UPC code is in place to organize the pricing and inventory control per each store. The reason it works this way is because if a UPC code had just one standard price for all stores, then each store could never run a sale or promotion for that product since every store would then have the same price. You don’t have to do anything with the pricing; the retail store will make those changes within their own system.
Question: Do I need to register my UPC Codes?
Answer: UPC code registration is 100% optional. It is not a requirement in order for your UPC codes to be functional. All of the UPC codes that we sell are active and ready for use when you need to use them. Question: When I purchase my UPC Codes from you, am I purchasing the company prefix?
Answer: No, you are not purchasing a company prefix, nor will a company prefix be assigned to you upon purchasing from us. When purchasing from us we are legally assigning UPC codes from our company assets to you. All UPC codes that are delivered to you arrive in ready-to-use condition. You are prohibited against modifying any of UPC code numbers that we issue to you upon our ToS/Policies. You are free to assign your UPC codes to any of your products or register your UPC codes. Here is a list of known companies that require you to have your own UPC Code Prefix – Walmart, Sams Club, Kroger, FredMeyer, Macy’s, The Home Depot & Bloomingdales.
Question: How do UPC/EAN codes work?
Answer: When you want to sell your product through a distributor/retailer (Target, Costco, Amazon, iTunes etc..) that retailer will have you complete a product information form with your details. On that form you will be required to put your company, product details and the 12-Digit UPC barcode number that we provide you with. Once the form is completed, then your retailer will enter your information into their system so they can give you credit for each sale. Each UPC code is simply just a link between your product and the product information form that you fill out for each store that sells your product.
Question: Why isn’t my company name showing up when it is scanned by my smartphone?
Answer: Until you upload your product to Amazon or a database that your specific smartphone scanner application is using, it will pull directly from GS1’s GEPIR system database. The information that you’re seeing is outdated and doesn’t record the current owner of that specific UPC or EAN Code. Each cell phone app which displays UPC registration information is connected either to their own database (RedLaser) or an existing online database (UPCdatabase.com). The details that the cell phone app will display will be dependent on the databases that the cell phone apps are tied into, so the data that each cell phone app displays may vary.
Question: If I already have a UPC code, do I need to purchase an EAN?
Answer: If you already have a UPC then you can sell your product in most locations that use EAN Codes. Some international retailers only accept EAN codes. When you purchase any UPC package from us, we provide you with both UPC & EAN codes.
Question: If I already have an EAN do I need to purchase a UPC?
Answer: If you already have an EAN code and you plan to sell your product outside Canada or the USA you will not need anything else. If you do plan to sell your product within the USA or Canada, you should be able to do so with an existing EAN code. To be safe, we recommend contacting the retailer in advance or just purchase a new UPC code.
Question: Do I need to have a UPC bar code in order to sell my product in a retail store?
Answer: Yes, all retail stores require that you have a UPC barcode assigned and affixed to your products. Your product packaging must have either the barcode image incorporated into the packaging or you can apply barcode labels if your barcode packaging is already complete without a barcode image printed within the package design.
Question: Do I have to have a UPC code in order to sell my products online?
Answer: You will only need to have UPC codes to sell your products online if the online retailer requires that you have a UPC code.
Question: Will my UPC Codes ever expire?
Answer: No, once you purchase your UPC codes through us, they’re yours to keep for life. There are no renewal fees and your UPC codes remain in an active status permanently.
Question: Will I be required to pay renewal fees?
Answer: No, there are no renewal fees. The UPC code prefixes from which we assign our UPC code numbers from are grandfathered into the UCC/GS1 system. Our grandfathered prefixes that we sell from never had renewal fees initially, so they do not require any renewing now or in the future.
